Two towels

When drink off - I use two towels. The first is for main total body main water absorption. The second is used for "detailing". A towel can only hold so much water and only has so much surface area. So you end up trying to dry yourself with a wet towel and just start pushing water around your skin then absorbing it. Taking as many cold showers as I do I found it more effective to dry this way.

Cold Shower 2 - tips and tricks

Ok so it took my 2nd 10 minute shower today and I was thinking anyone that wants to try this is crazy. Just a little bit...

So here are a few tips and tricks to get you through your first cold shower.
In the AM, start with normal temp water. Do what you need to do... Wash hair, soap up, shave...whatever - soap rinses off much easier with warm water. After you are all rinsed off 1/2 the water temp and make sure you hit these areas with water - head, neck, chest and upper back finally under arms - don't miss the pits!

1/2 the water again and repeat - include legs in the round.

Next go full cold - you can tell you are at full cold by the sound your water makes it should change pitch... I use the kitchen timer to make sure I hit 10 minutes.

In the PM - full cold right away! Head and chest first - Your first reaction will be to inhale sharply and shallow - you will make strange noises and swear - usually referencing the temperature of the water. If you have a timer you you look at it to see how much time you have left - 9:47 to go? Really?!? This too passes... You will find that after a cold shower you will be able to sleep better and in the morning it will wake you the hell up!

I plan on upping my next night shower to 15 minutes. When I hit 20 I will add ice baths once a week.

Beans beans and more beans - Meal 4

How many black beans can I eat...
Apparently I can eat 3+ cups with
1/8 cup cooked rice
2 eggs
Salsa
Avocado
Garlic
Onions

It was super filling and I was not hungry the rest of the night!
I did have a few nuts right before bed...

(I skipped the protein shake before bed)

Gingered sweet potato with broccoli and spinach
Apple celery butternut squash
Strawberries and raspberries

During the day I drank 2 liters of ice water

Cold Showers - 7 day test for fat loss

In this 7 day test - I will take 2 x 10 minute cold showers per day. I have private well water system (so the water might be colder then city water) and I will record water temp at the mid point of my shower. There will be no progression - just straight to the coldest water possible. I will use a kitchen timer to track my time.

I will post my before and after stats.

Dr Oz: Ice Therapy: 4-Hour Weight Loss Strategy #1

Dr Oz asked Timothy Feris what is Ice Therapy and how does it work?  He said that Ice Therapy triggers hormones that are helpful for fat loss.  You can do something as simple as a cold ice pack on your upper back and your upper chest for 30 minutes when you watch tv at night.  Then you can buildup to taking a cold shower the next morning.  And Ferriss said that the final step, which is what he does, is to take an actual Ice Bath up to your waist for 10 minutes, three times per week.  But take it slowly – you should not go from doing nothing straight into an Ice Bath.

Dr Oz: Why Do Ice Baths Make You Lose Weight?

Dr Oz said that he checked out this theory of Ice Therapy and that when you are cold, your body has to do a lot more work to do the same things as when it is warm – so you burn much more fat.  You have something called Brown Fat that is located around blood vessels and keeps your blood warm.  By cooling off with ice, your body is forced to burn a dramatically larger number of calories.  I have heard that sucking on ice cubes or drinking cold water also helps you to lose weight because your body has to use energy to bring the cold water or ice up to your body’s temperature.  Sounds like a similar phenomenon!
